$D Ranch (former headquarters to Old Ball Ranch) features year round cow/calf operation, 6 elk tags in Big Game Hunting Unit 12, private airstrip with hanger, and polo arena. The 1280 deeded acres are located approximately 19 miles northwest of Pie Town, NM and 23 miles north of Quemado, NM, and east of State Highway 603.
Headquarters: Consists of a 2008 Karsten home (36′ x 60′ with log cabin exterior). The 1800 sq ft+/- home features 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, living room, eat-in kitchen, storage and utility room. Bunk house is a 2000 Fleetwood home (16′ x 66′) with 2 large bedrooms, living room, full kitchen with eat-in dining room, full bath with garden tub and walk in closet; currently sleeps 12 adults comfortably. The bunk house is fitted on the west side of main house to form an L shaped courtyard/wind break. A custom built covered wood porch wraps around the main house and connects the bunk house for a huge entertainment space.
Year Round Ranching: Currently running 15 cow/calf pairs on the 1280 acres of well-maintained pasture, cross-fenced by section. Several miles of new fencing have been installed. During the summer months, the ranch also supports 10-15 horses. The livestock are supplemented with about 100 bales of hay per year. The ranch is well watered with a main well that produces +/- 600 gal per hour. There are two 5,000 gal water storage tanks and 4 drinkers along a pipe line that provides water for the entire ranch. The livestock operation is also supported by a large corral network complete with certified scales, watering tank, and the original homesteaders cabin restored for use as a tack room.Hunting: The ranch is also a hunting property that currently receives 2 either sex archery tags, 2 mature bull rifle tags, and 2 cow rifle tags. The elk tags are sold to a hunting outfitter and provide income to the ranch operation. 30 acres of rye are planted annually for the abundant elk and other wildlife that browse on the property.
Polo: The ranch hosts players and fans of Pie Town Polo Club tournament season. A newly built enclosed arena (330′ x 150′) with high quality footing accommodating high goal arena polo can be used for many rodeo and equestrian sports. Gates at the ends and in the center allow for maintenance as needed.
